A 20-year-old man, identified by law enforcement as Wess Roley, is suspected of fatally shooting two firefighters and wounding a third near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. His body was discovered near a sniper rifle, believed to be the murder weapon, following a massive manhunt.

The incident unfolded on Canfield Mountain, where authorities suspect Roley deliberately ignited a wildfire. Responding to the blaze at approximately 1:21 p.m. local time, firefighters were subsequently ambushed, prompting emergency calls to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s office around 2:00 p.m.

Sheriff Bob Norris detailed the subsequent response, involving over 300 local, state, and federal officers. A significant search operation ensued, culminating in the discovery of Roley’s body and the suspected weapon. Preliminary investigations strongly suggest he acted alone, initiating the fire to create an ambush opportunity.

For several hours, a shelter-in-place order was enacted, keeping residents away from Canfield Mountain, which was also declared a no-fly zone. Firefighting efforts were temporarily suspended during the intense search for the shooter. A wildfire, initially believed to be connected to the shooting, continued to burn on the mountain, even after Roley's death. The ongoing investigation aims to determine the full extent of Roley's motives and actions. Information obtained from internet sources confirmed these details.
