Solana surges 16%, hitting $160, on upcoming SOL ETF approval.

Solana's price surged by a remarkable 16% in just four days, reaching nearly $160 on Monday. This significant price increase is largely attributed to heightened speculation surrounding the potential approval of a Solana staking exchange-traded fund (ETF) and a broader bullish market trend that has rekindled institutional investor enthusiasm. The cryptocurrency's momentum is further bolstered by its breakout above a key resistance level, setting the stage for potential further gains.

A leading Bloomberg ETF analyst, James Seyffart, fueled this speculation by suggesting the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) might be on the verge of approving REX Shares' application for a Solana staking ETF. Seyffart cited unusually swift communication from the SEC as a strong indicator of imminent approval. This development, if realized, would mark a significant milestone, establishing the first-ever Solana-based ETF in the US and providing institutional investors with a previously unavailable access point to the Solana ecosystem, comparable to the existing ETFs for Bitcoin and Ethereum. This access would notably encompass yield-bearing options, a feature currently absent from other prominent cryptocurrency ETFs.

The proposed REX Shares ETF offers investors exposure to Solana staking rewards, removing the complexities and risks associated with self-custody. Currently, a substantial portion of Solana's circulating supply—nearly 65%—is already staked, generating an average annual reward of 7.52%. This high level of staking activity creates the potential for a significant supply squeeze should the ETF gain approval and attract substantial institutional investment, further driving up the price. The considerable volume of staked Solana, approximately 391.3 million SOL, underscores the existing demand and the potential for further growth, fueled by this exciting development.
