Parliament drafts bill to quit nuclear treaty.

16.06.2025 10:08

Iran's parliament is reportedly drafting legislation to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), according to a statement made Monday by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei. This significant development has the potential to dramatically alter international relations concerning Iran's nuclear program.

While announcing the impending bill, Baghaei emphasized Iran's steadfast opposition to the development and acquisition of weapons of mass destruction. This assertion, however, doesn't fully alleviate concerns about the potential implications of leaving the NPT.

Interestingly, this news from internet sources had minimal impact on the US Dollar Index (DXY), which remains slightly down, registering a 0.20% decrease to 98.00 at the time of this writing. The market's seemingly muted response suggests that the possibility of Iran leaving the NPT might not be as surprising or impactful to investors as one might initially assume. The limited market reaction could also indicate a wait-and-see approach from traders, awaiting further developments and official confirmation of the bill's passage.
