A manhunt is underway in Minnesota following a double murder and a double shooting that Governor Tim Walz has described as a politically motivated assassination attempt. State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband were tragically killed in their home, while State Senator John Hoffman and his wife sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical care. The alleged perpetrator, Vance Boelter, remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.


Prior to the attacks, Boelter sent a disturbing text message to roommates, revealing his intentions and expressing remorse. One roommate shared the text with the Minnesota Star-Tribune, which read, "I love you guys. I made some choices, and you guys don’t know anything about this, but I’m going to be gone for a while. May be dead shortly, so I just want to let you know I love you guys both and I wish it hadn’t gone this way. I don’t want to say anything more and implicate you in any way because you guys don’t know anything about this. But I love you guys and I’m sorry for all the trouble this has caused." This message foreshadowed the violent events that followed.


Further escalating the urgency, the FBI has offered a substantial $50,000 reward for information leading to Boelter's arrest and conviction. They have also released a new photograph, purportedly showing the suspect at the victims' residence, disguised in what appears to be a police uniform and head covering, early Saturday morning. Authorities have warned the public that Boelter might be impersonating a law enforcement officer.


A shelter-in-place order implemented in Brooklyn Park, the Hortmans' residence, has since been lifted. Law enforcement officials believe Boelter is no longer in the immediate vicinity, although the search continues intensely. The investigation into this horrific crime is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward immediately.
