Inflation in the United States remained unchanged in February, with the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index holding at an annual rate of 2.8%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). The figure matched the consensus forecast and reflected a 0.4% month‑over‑month increase, exactly as analysts had anticipated.
The core PCE Price Index—favoured by the Federal Reserve as its primary inflation gauge—slipped slightly, registering a 3.0% year‑over‑year rise compared with 3.1% in January. Meanwhile, the BEA reported a modest 0.1% decline in personal income for the month, offset by a 0.5% gain in personal spending.
These data points generated little turbulence in the markets. At the time the numbers were released, the U.S. Dollar Index was essentially flat, hovering at 98.96.
