Universities Locked Down: Potential Threats Spark Security Alerts

11.09.2025 21:26

A wave of potential threats prompted at least seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities to enforce campus-wide lockdowns on Thursday, leading to the immediate cancellation of classes and other non-essential activities as authorities launched investigations into the validity of the warnings.

Affecting institutions across four different states, the security alerts placed a significant number of students and staff under shelter-in-place orders. According to information gathered from internet sources, the list of impacted schools includes Morehouse College, Virginia State University, Hampton University, Alabama State University, Southern University, Clark Atlanta University, and Spelman College.

Illustrating the seriousness of the situation, Virginia State University issued an official statement at 12:29 p.m. EDT, confirming that its campus was on lockdown after receiving a threat earlier in the morning. As a direct result, all afternoon classes and extracurriculars were suspended while additional security personnel were deployed to monitor both the campus and university-operated off-campus housing. The situation remains fluid as investigations are actively underway.
