Tokyo Beast Cyberpunk RPG shutting down August.

28.07.2025 06:44

Tokyo Beast, a cyberpunk-themed role-playing game built on Immutable zkEVM's blockchain platform, will cease operations on August 24th. This marks a surprisingly swift end, considering the game launched only 45 days prior.

The closure, announced by producer Naoki Motohashi, stems from unsustainable operational expenses and disappointing financial performance. High costs outweighed player engagement and revenue generation, ultimately forcing the difficult decision to shut down.

Players will receive full refunds for their non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and in-game assets, processed in USDC stablecoin. This move aims to mitigate the financial impact on the community.

While Tokyo Beast is closing its doors, it's important to note that the broader TOKYO GAMES ecosystem remains unaffected. Development and support for other projects within this ecosystem will continue unabated. This shows a commitment to the wider vision despite the setback of one particular title.

The decision underscores the challenges facing blockchain games, highlighting the importance of balancing ambitious development with sustainable business models and player engagement. The quick closure serves as a cautionary tale in the volatile world of blockchain gaming.
