SpaceX Unloads 1,308 Bitcoin After 3-Year Hold

23.07.2025 00:28

SpaceX, after a three-year period of inactivity, recently transferred 1,308 Bitcoin (approximately $153 million) to a new wallet. This significant on-chain movement, the first since 2022, marks the end of a prolonged silence and raises questions about the company's cryptocurrency strategy and future plans for its Bitcoin holdings.

The last known activity involving SpaceX's Bitcoin holdings occurred between May 25th and June 10th, 2022, when a substantial transfer of 17,314 BTC (worth $510.65 million at the time) was sent to Coinbase. This earlier transaction, executed at an average Bitcoin price of approximately $28,490, suggested a potential rebalancing or partial sale of the company's Bitcoin reserves. Subsequent inactivity left analysts and observers curious about the company's intentions.

Despite this recent transfer, SpaceX reportedly retains a considerable Bitcoin stash, holding approximately 6,977 BTC in wallets tracked by on-chain analysts. This substantial holding keeps SpaceX among the largest corporate Bitcoin owners, although speculation is rife concerning the motivations behind the recent movement. The transfer might signal a variety of actions, ranging from simple asset management to larger strategic shifts within the company.

Several interpretations of this transaction are plausible. Firstly, it could reflect standard liquidity management practices, such as securing collateral for future ventures, engaging in over-the-counter (OTC) trades, or diversifying its treasury holdings. Secondly, the transfer might simply represent a routine security measure, a common practice among large cryptocurrency holders to mitigate risks associated with holding significant digital assets in a single location. Finally, the move could presage further actions, such as a sale on an exchange or the exploration of new yield-generating or settlement models via custodial or smart contract wallets. The true purpose, however, remains uncertain until further actions are taken.
