Authorities identified 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda as the perpetrator in a shooting incident near a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, on Monday morning. This attack resulted in injuries to two local police officers and a Border Patrol employee, highlighting a concerning escalation of violence targeting federal facilities.

The incident unfolded near the entrance to a Border Patrol sector annex, prompting a swift response from both Border Patrol agents and local law enforcement. An exchange of gunfire ensued, ultimately leading to Mosqueda's death. While initial reports indicated one officer sustained a gunshot wound to the knee, subsequent clarification from local police suggests the injury's cause remains undetermined, possibly stemming from shrapnel instead.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez revealed that Mosqueda was equipped with an assault rifle and a utility vest. Further investigation uncovered another rifle and additional ammunition within his vehicle. The FBI is currently leading the investigation to determine Mosqueda's motive, with no information publicly released at this time. All injured individuals were transported to a local hospital for treatment; no federal agents suffered injuries during the event.

This attack follows a series of concerning incidents targeting Department of Homeland Security facilities. Just days prior, a police officer was shot in the neck while responding to a suspicious person near a detention center in Prairieland, Texas. Simultaneously, demonstrations outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Portland, Oregon, resulted in clashes between protesters and agents. These events underscore a growing trend of violence and unrest directed at federal agencies, prompting Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to announce a close monitoring of the situation. The ongoing FBI investigation aims to shed light on the underlying causes and motivations behind these disturbing incidents.
