Following a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin vehemently denounced the recent U.S. military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities. He characterized the action as an unwarranted and unjustified act of aggression against Iran, marking a departure from Russia's initially more reserved response. While Putin pledged Russian efforts to aid the Iranian people, the specifics of this support remain undisclosed, a significant point given Russia's current involvement in the Ukraine conflict.
Meanwhile, at an urgent meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) board of governors, Director General Rafael Grossi reported that the U.S. strikes likely inflicted considerable damage on Iran's Fordow nuclear facility. He emphasized the potential for extensive harm to the centrifuges due to the explosive force and their delicate nature. However, Iran informed the IAEA that no off-site radiation increases were detected at any of the three targeted sites.
Adding to the international condemnation, China expressed strong disapproval of the U.S. actions. The Chinese foreign ministry declared the strikes a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter, further escalating tensions in the Middle East. China's UN ambassador, Fu Cong, highlighted not only the damage inflicted upon Iran but also the significant blow to U.S. credibility on the international stage, particularly within the context of ongoing negotiations. He voiced deep concern about potential escalation and urged all parties, especially Israel, to immediately cease hostilities to prevent a further deterioration of the situation.
