xAI, a technology company, is facing legal action for significant environmental violations at its Colossus data center in South Memphis. The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC), acting on behalf of the NAACP, has filed suit alleging the company operated over 400 megawatts of natural gas turbines without securing the necessary air permits. This constitutes a breach of the Clean Air Act, according to the SELC.
The lawsuit highlights xAI's installation and operation of at least 35 combustion turbines and other pollution sources at the Colossus facility without obtaining required pre-construction or operational permits.
